How to record a Rally score without a mix-up

A match can be close, friendly and well played, then become confusing because somebody remembers the second game differently. The easiest time to prevent that is immediately after each game, while both sides still know the score.

Rally separates reporting a result from confirming it. One side enters the game scores; the other checks them. Treat that second step as a useful shared check, not a button to press without reading.

Keep one order throughout

Look at who is shown as home and away in the fixture. Record every game in that order, even when the away side wins. “Our score first” becomes ambiguous as soon as the other player reads it.

For example, a home-side win in four games could be written:

Game Home Away
1 11 7
2 8 11
3 12 10
4 11 9

The home side wins three games to one. The second row stays 8–11; you do not reverse the columns to put the winner first. This is an example, not a result from a real fixture.

Check the match is complete

Rally's published format is best of five games to eleven, win by two. A completed match therefore has three, four or five games, ending when one side has won three. A game at 10–10 continues until one side leads by two.

Do not add a fifth game when the match finished in four, or record an unplayed game as 0–0. If a match stopped early or could not be played, contact the organiser about the appropriate outcome. An invented completed score is not a way to record a cancellation.

Agree before you leave

Read the scores back together while you are still courtside. Decide who will enter them, then check the fixture carefully before submitting. It is easy to open the wrong opponent when you have several matches in your diary.

When the confirmation request arrives, compare every game with your own notes. Check the sides as well as the numbers. A correct total with the players reversed is still an incorrect result.

Use the dispute route for an incorrect report

If the reported score is wrong, do not confirm it just to clear the request. Rally provides a dispute option with a reason so an organiser can review the result. Explain the precise difference, such as which game is reversed, and keep your original notes.

Next step: read how Rally scoring and the table work, then make a habit of recording scores after every game.
